Lifestyle change is considered to be the best solution to prevent diseases and early death. In Western society it is considered as early or premature death when people die at the age of 65. There some identified factors that contribute to this early death in Western culture and unhealthy lifestyle is on top of the list. There some healthy lifestyles that can lower the risks of diseases and increase wellness. Lifestyles affect wellness, health, and physical fitness of the person. Physical fitness is significant to wellness and health and vice versa. These factors also includes environment like pollution, contaminants, and the like, and the inadequacies in the health care systems.
The main causes of early death have transformed from infectious diseases to severe lifestyle-related conditions. Records show that the improvements in medicine and health care systems have lessened the prevalence of infectious diseases for the past 100 years. As an example, new medicines have reduced the death cases due to pneumonia and influenza. The advne tof immunizations have eliminated the cases of small pox in 1977 as well as the diphtheria and polio cases were eliminated in US. However, as these infectious diseases were eradicated or reduced, other diseases replaced them as the main causes of early death in Western culture. The HIV/AIDS dropped from the top ten list due to the new treatments and procedures that have accelerated the span of life among those who are infected by this disease. But on the top list now are diseases referred to as severe lifestyle-related conditions.
Healthy lifestyle is crucial to wellness. Presently, unhealthy lifestyles have contributed to to modern-day diseases like heart ailments, diabetes, and cancer. However, healthy lifestyles can also cause in enhanced feeling of wellness which is crucial to optimum health. This wellness is linked with social, spiritual, physical fitness and mental processes. Being physically fit and eating nutritious foods are examples of healthy lifestyles that can enhance the wellness or well-being that can add more healthy years.
Regular physical activities, healthy and balanced nutrition and sound stress management lead to healthy lifestyle. These are considered as behaviors that have impact on our lives. Those who smoke tobacco and cigarettes, abuse the use of drugs which includes alcohol, and unsafe sex practices can improve their lives and health once they change these behaviors and lifestyles. Learning to manage and handle stress well can also reduce risks for health problems. Generally, stress can lead to use of drugs, alcohol, and smoking behaviors. So learning to manage stress is imperative to prevent health problems.
As people nowadays become aware and conscious of the health risks due to unhealthy lifestyles, there have been more efforts that are being done to shift from unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy one. I see a crucial factor: our determination, motivation and self-discipline. The absence of any of these may deter our efforts to transform our unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy one for “more long healthy years of living”.
