Many people do not know that changing from 2% milk to 1% can make a huge difference in our health.
Whole milk is recommended for children from 1-2 years old. Low-fat (1% or fat-free) is recommended after the age of two.
If you and your family drink whole milk or 2%, we urge you to introduce 1% milk to the family.
Bring home a pint of your regular milk and a pint of 1% - have your family try them without knowing which is which and see if they can tell the difference! |
Switching from whole or 2% milk to 1% or fat-free is an important and
easy step toward protecting your health.
Did you know that:
· Whole and 2% milk are leading sources of saturated fat in Americans
diets. Saturated fat is a major contributor to heart disease-the number
one killer of American men and women.
· Over a lifetime, by drinking fat-free milk instead of whole milk
(after the age of 2 years), the average person could cut 400 pounds of
fat from his/her diet. This is equal to 1,400,000 calories!
· All milk, regardless of fat content, contains the same amount of
protein and Vitamin D. However, the amount of calcium is higher in the
low-fat milks.
